Gonzalo was born in 1976 in Santa Rosa de Viterbo, Colombia. He studied at the Pierre Moor School of Visual Arts (Switzerland), where he received a scholarship. At the Pierre Moor studio, he learned painting and sculpture techniques. He has exhibited his work in Switzerland, Colombia, Italy, Santos, and São Paulo at the Casagaleria Loly Demercian and Galeria Gourmet in São Paulo.
With undeniable sensitivity, he developed an extraordinary concept of artistic creation. Influenced by the artist Alejandro Obregón Rosés, his focus was on poverty, more specifically on the lonely and abandoned people on the streets of large cities. He uses low tones, sometimes with subtle brushstrokes of red, highlighting a scene that is a lived reality, involving the viewer in the world of the painting itself, as if entering its colors and shapes.

What is the role of the artist in today's society?

Many artists have used art as a way to portray the reality of homeless people, showing the difficulties they face and seeking to raise public awareness of the issue. In 2010, Gonzalo exhibited "Urban Fragilities", in which he reproduced images of homeless people in various parts of the city of Santos. The work aimed to give visibility to homeless people and provoke reflection on social inequality. It showed people without faces, but full of stories, seeking to give voice and visibility to this invisible population. And this research process continues, like a wanderer, a contemporary Baudelaire.
